Step 1 — Reach out. Call or text. Tell me what formats you have and roughly how many tapes. I’ll give you a rough estimate right away.
Step 2 — I pick up from you. We schedule a convenient time. I come to your home in the Iowa City area and pick up your tapes. No shipping. No drop-off location.
Step 3 — Capture and conversion. Each tape is played back in real time on professional capture equipment — a 2-hour tape takes 2 hours to capture. VHS tapes are handled with a dedicated deck; Hi8, Digital8, and MiniDV tapes use purpose-built camcorder equipment. The AI Enhancement option adds a processing pass for sharper, cleaner results.
Step 4 — Delivered back to you. Originals and digital files returned personally. Files come on an engraved flash drive in a keepsake tin. Most tape orders of 1–5 tapes are completed within a week.

Standard digitizing captures the tape at its current quality — it won’t add quality that isn’t there, but it prevents further deterioration. The AI Enhancement option does improve sharpness and reduce noise visibly, especially on older or degraded footage.
Standard orders are delivered as H.264 MP4 files — widely compatible with computers, phones, smart TVs, and streaming services. Let me know if you need a specific format.
Some damaged tapes can be recovered; others cannot. If you have tapes with visible mold, water damage, or a bad smell, let me know before pickup — we’ll talk through what’s realistic.
